Bush at the Oval Office of the White House and delivered an update at the Rose Garden thereafter regarding the efforts to raise private-sector funds for Haiti disaster relief to help victims and survivors of the Jan. 12th earthquake which struck the capital city, Port-au-Prince, and surrounding areas. Obama thanked the former Presidents for returning to service. Referencing the efforts of former President H.W. It is an enormous challenge to deliver this aid quickly.b� He added: b�We also know that our longer-term effort will not be measured by days and weeks, it will be measured by months and years. This is why it is important to enlist and sustain the support of the American people.b� Former President Bush said: b�The challenges are immense but there are a lot of devoted people leading the relief effort.b� He went on to note that the most effective way people could help is to contribute money. b�I know people want to send blankets or water; just send your cash. We will make sure your money is spent well.b� Former President Clinton said: b�We start the rebuilding effort; we want to do what I did with [President Bush's] father in the tsunami area. We will insure the ongoing integrity of the process.b� He also reflected upon the long struggle of Haiti and his personal connection as the UN Special Envoy to the nation, saying, b�It is still one of the most remarkable, unique places I have ever been and they can escape their and rebuild their future.
